One new research article published: Anthropic's Model Hardware Standard (MHS) research preview — a shared specification enabling AI agents to discover, integrate, and safely operate physical lab and manufacturing equipment, reducing multi-device integration from weeks to hours.
On August 27, 2026, Anthropic opened a research preview of the Model Hardware Standard (MHS) — a shared specification enabling AI agents to discover, integrate, and safely operate physical lab and manufacturing instruments (microscopes, liquid handlers, robotic arms, quantum lasers) in parallel. MHS reduces multi-device integration from weeks to hours, uses MCP-compatible drivers with natural-language device tags, and is already being tested by Genentech, HHMI Janelia, QuEra Computing, Carnegie Mellon, and 10+ hardware vendors including AWS Strands Robots, Tecan, Universal Robots, and Doosan Robotics.
